About the Role

Clinical Assistants (CAs) are an integral part of hands-on patient care on Medical/Surgical and Progressive Care inpatient units. Working under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), CAs provide vital signs, perform designated tests, collect patient samples, and support patients in all activities of daily living. CAs also serve as the welcoming point for patients and families, interact with staff and physicians, and ensure timely, accurate communication and documentation in a computerized medical setting.

Responsibilities

Provide responsive, service-oriented patient care under the direction of RNs.
Conduct various patient tests and specimen collection as directed by RN.
Function as the "front door" to the unit, providing customer service-oriented communication and clerical support.
Take and record vital signs.
Perform designated tests and collect patient samples.
Support patients in all activities of daily living.
Welcome and acclimate patients and their families to the unit.
Interact with unit staff, physicians, and other hospital department personnel.
Provide timely and accurate communication.
Maintain accurate documentation.
Maintain a harmonious, team-oriented, customer-friendly environment.
Function competently in a computerized medical setting.

Requirements

High school graduate, GED, or equivalent work experience.
Ability to read, write, and comprehend medical terminology.
Previous experience as a nurse aide or satisfactorily completed a nurse aide training program or other relevant clinical experience (ambulating, bathing, feeding patients).
Successfully completed PLA Competency based training.
Competency to perform Heimlich Maneuver.
Ability to demonstrate positive communication skills.
Ability to perform detailed assignments, work under pressure, and relate to patients, hospital staff, physicians, and visitors.
Ability to use basic computer skills.
Ability to attend and complete CVPH education requirements satisfactorily.
Meets requirement for pre-employment screening and physical exam.
Ability to work independently, handle interruptions, take direction, and prioritize.
Training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.
