About the Role

Provide independent second line risk oversight and advice across Westpac's Americas business. Partner with business and risk leaders to ensure risks are appropriately identified, assessed, documented and managed in line with the Operational Risk Management Framework and broader Risk Management Framework. Provide specialist, outcome focused operational risk oversight and challenge, helping the business make sound risk informed decisions while supporting the achievement of strategic and commercial objectives. The role also provides valuable insight into emerging risks, business change initiatives, operational resilience and the evolving regulatory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent second line oversight of operational risk management practices across the Americas business.
  • Partner with business leadership on strategic initiatives, providing operational risk insight and challenge to support effective decision making and execution.
  • Assess and challenge the operational risk profile, control environment and remediation activities to ensure risks are managed within approved risk appetite.
  • Deliver thematic reviews and deep dive assessments across key risk areas, providing specialist guidance, challenge and oversight of remediation activities.
  • Provide operational risk reporting and insights to senior management, including emerging risks, control weaknesses, thematic issues and remediation progress.
  • Support the identification and management of emerging, strategic and external risks impacting the business.
  • Provide independent oversight and challenge of operational resilience capabilities, including critical services, business continuity, recovery planning and scenario testing.
  • Oversee and challenge third party risk management practices, including supplier, outsourcing and concentration risks.
  • Provide independent risk oversight of material business change initiatives, including strategic projects, technology implementations, process transformation and new product activity.
  • Support the continued embedment of the Operational Risk Target Operating Model across WIB & Treasury.
  • Promote consistency and best practice in operational risk oversight across the Americas business and the broader WIB & Treasury Risk function.
  • Analyse and synthesise risk insights from internal and external sources, translating these into practical recommendations for senior stakeholders.
  • Monitor regulatory developments, industry trends and external events, bringing relevant insights and emerging risk perspectives to the business.
  • Foster a strong risk culture through effective engagement, challenge and stakeholder influence.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in Operational Risk, Compliance, Risk Advisory or related risk management roles within financial services.
  • Extensive experience providing operational risk oversight, challenge and advice within a complex financial services environment.
  • Proven experience in senior Operational Risk, Compliance or Risk Advisory roles within banking or financial services.
  • Demonstrated experience providing independent risk oversight and challenge across complex business and regulatory environments.
  • Strong track record in Operational Risk, Compliance or Risk Advisory within a regulated financial services organisation.
