About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic, curious, and adaptable Athletic Therapist to support the Head Athletic Therapist in covering U15 hockey games within the Upper School Health Centre Department.

Responsibilities

  • Provide game coverage for hockey, a high-impact contact sport.
  • Report to the Head Athletic Therapist and correspond with Coaches and Athletic Director.
  • Provide on-site and on-field coverage during U15 hockey games, including evenings and weekends.
  • Perform pre-game taping and post-game injury care.
  • Provide initial on-field first-aid, immediate/emergency care, and management of acute injuries, including concussions.
  • Conduct sideline concussion assessments (SCAT test) for players suspected of concussion.
  • Utilize good judgment and quick decision-making for safe return to play.
  • Provide first-aid and emergency care for visiting school teams.
  • Accompany U15 hockey teams during travel to away games and tournaments.
  • Ensure athletes' health and safety during away games and tournaments.
  • Assess (SCAT test), provide immediate care, and manage suspected concussions, including referrals to healthcare providers.
  • Oversee students through their concussion 'return-to-play' protocol.
  • Maintain up-to-date student concussion recovery/management documentation.
  • Correspond with Head Athletic Therapist, UCC Health Center, and Coaches regarding student/athlete concussion status.
  • Maintain up-to-date records, files, and clinic's daily log.
  • Document injuries, assessments, treatments, and progress accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Coordinate referrals to external healthcare providers.
  • Keep Head Athletic Therapist and Coaches informed regarding player injuries, recovery progress, and playing status.
  • Maintain open communication with athletes, coaches, therapy staff, UCC Health Center staff, and parents.
  • Collaborate with coaches and other sports staff for coordinated athlete care.
  • Communicate effectively during emergencies with relevant staff, coaches, medical professionals, and parents.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate Bachelor’s Degree (or Diploma) in Athletic Therapy from an accredited Athletic Therapy program.
  • Certified Athletic Therapist CAT(C) in good standing with the Canadian Athletic Therapist Association (CATA).
  • Valid CPR/AED-BLS (Basic Life Support) and First Responder certifications.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in Athletic Therapy, preferably in clinical and field settings.
  • Familiarity working with high-risk contact sport teams, such as hockey.
  • Hockey Canada Trainers Certification.
  • Ability to work in both clinical and field settings.
  • Familiarity working with and treating adolescent athletes/students (aged 10-19).
  • Strong injury assessment and treatment skills.
  • Knowledge of rehabilitation techniques, therapeutic modality application (U/S, IFC, NMES, TENS, thermotherapy, cryotherapy), emergency care, and taping techniques.
  • Strong working knowledge of therapeutic and exercise techniques for injured athletes.
  • Strong on-field injury management skills.
  • Experience with concussion (SCAT) assessments and management, including return-to-play management.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Energetic, self-motivated, and takes initiative.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to deal appropriately with a high volume of patients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with various staff and stakeholders.
  • Timely documentation and maintenance of up-to-date patient records.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and triage multiple injuries.
  • Ability to use good judgment and make quick decisions regarding safe return to play.
  • Dependable, accountable, and flexible with scheduling.
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
  • A current Vulnerable Sector Screening Police Record Check is required as a condition of employment.

Salary/Compensations
