About the Role

The Autism Support Assistant is responsible for ensuring daily support provided to individuals with Autism enhances their quality of life, aligning with Kerry's Place Autism Services values and agency goals. The role focuses on maximizing health, safety, and personal fulfillment for individuals with Autism.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and act according to Kerry’s Place Autism Services Employee Performance Standards, showing respect for all people.
  • Use creativity and resourcefulness to effectively apply quality of life principles, enhancing and maintaining the dignity and respect of individuals supported.
  • Provide solutions to barriers impacting the achievement of quality of life and participate in ensuring Personal Outcomes are met as defined by each participant.
  • Understand and implement actions to support individuals in achieving goals identified in their Person Directed Plan.
  • Provide appropriate supports to ensure the health and safety of individuals supported, ensuring compliance with Health and Safety and Abuse Prevention Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensure Behaviour Support Plans and skill-building strategies are consistently implemented as directed by clinical staff and/or manager.
  • Provide support and coaching in social skills, communication, vocation, daily living skills, and leisure activities.
  • Ensure the work area is clean and safe, correcting or reporting safety concerns immediately.
  • Document and report accidents, injuries, and near misses immediately.
  • Use Kerry’s Place Autism Services resources in a cost-effective and efficient manner.
  • Ensure accuracy and timely completion of documentation for legislative and policy requirements, including individual files, health records, Person Directed Plans, and data collection.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with families, natural supports, volunteers, professionals, community members, and other individuals encountered during work.
  • Administer medication according to Kerry’s Place Autism Services Policy and Procedure, understanding medication purpose, effects, and potential side effects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Developmental Service Worker Diploma from a recognized Community College or Human Services Diploma/Degree from a recognized Community College or University or a Personal Support Worker certificate from a Community College or from a registered and Ministry approved Private Career College.
  • Completion of Ontario Secondary School (or equivalent) and 1 year of related experience (preferably supporting people with Autism).
  • Solid communication skills both oral and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team.
  • Demonstrated flexibility, creativity, and sound judgment.
  • Self-motivated and demonstrated ability to motivate others.
  • Must have the ability to physically support adults with Autism.
  • Must have the ability to perform the required physical techniques of NVCI training from the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI).
  • Position requires flexible working hours and ability to travel as required.
  • A valid Driver’s License, with a minimum G2 and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
  • Proof of third party liability insurance coverage.
  • Must be able to provide a Driver’s Abstract in good standing with fewer than three demerit points.

Salary/Compensations

  • $23.03 - $25.21 per hour (Autism Support Assistant)
  • $22.03 - $24.12 per hour (Overnight Awake)
  • $20.50 per hour (Overnight Sleep)
  • Additional amount per hour for premium shifts as per Collective Agreement
