About the Role

The Registered Dental Hygienist is responsible for directly providing oral hygiene and preventative services to dental patients, as defined by New York State regulations. This role may be eligible for student loan reimbursement through the National Health Service Corps Loan Reimbursement Program.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the oral health management of health center patients.
  • Assess patient’s medical history.
  • Obtain oral hygiene assessment data and record patient-hygienist transactions in the patient’s dental record.
  • Provide oral health education and individual dental counseling.
  • Provide clinical oral hygiene services, including dental prophylaxis, scaling, sealant application, exposing dental radiographs, periodontal treatment, and fluoride application.
  • Integrate appropriate patient dental hygiene care with other healthcare professionals.
  • Perform independent dental procedures as delegated and directed by the dentist.
  • Oversee scheduling of hygiene recall appointments.
  • Participate in group conferences and meetings.
  • Assist with clinical and administrative functions of the Dental Department.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Dental Hygiene.
  • Valid NYS Dental Hygiene License.
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Knowledge of eClinicalWorks preferred.
  • Strong organizational and computer skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients/caregivers.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships.
  • Professionalism and confidentiality in dealing with patient issues.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to sit/stand for long periods.
  • Willingness to work with infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and other occupational hazards.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment.
