About the Role
As the energy system transforms, policy and regulation play a critical role in enabling the investment, innovation and infrastructure needed to deliver for customers and communities. We're looking for an experienced Senior Policy Manager to join our Corporate Affairs team, helping to shape the policy environment in which National Grid operates and support a secure, affordable and clean energy system. As Senior Policy Manager, you will lead the development and delivery of National Grid's UK policy strategy, working across a complex stakeholder landscape to influence policy outcomes that support our business and the wider energy transition.
Responsibilities
- Leading UK policy strategy, prioritisation and development across National Grid.
- Co-leading policy governance processes, tracking progress and outcomes against key priorities.
- Monitoring and analysing political, regulatory and policy developments to identify risks and opportunities.
- Providing policy insight and advice to senior leaders, including contributions to Executive and Board-level briefings.
- Leading responses to government consultations, legislation and parliamentary inquiries.
- Developing compelling policy positions, thought leadership content and external policy publications.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with government officials, trade bodies, think tanks, academics and wider industry stakeholders.
- Supporting broader advocacy and stakeholder engagement campaigns.
- Leading, coaching and developing a team of policy professionals.
Requirements
- Strategic thinker with a strong understanding of the UK political and policymaking environment.
- Ability to translate complex issues into clear and persuasive policy positions.
- Strong knowledge of UK energy policy and the wider political and policy landscape.
- Significant experience in policy development, analysis and influencing within a complex stakeholder environment.
- Proven ability to shape and communicate policy solutions to a variety of audiences.
- Experience building and maintaining senior external stakeholder networks.
- Strong influencing skills and experience working across large, complex organisations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience leading, developing and motivating teams.
- Commercially aware mindset with an understanding of business strategy and organisational objectives.
