About the Role
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to produce diagnostic CT images of designated anatomic areas as prescribed by established scan protocols, while providing the appropriate care to the age of the patient served by the department of radiology.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates timely throughput for CT patients, prioritizing exams based on priority level and escalating hurdles to timely completion.
- Properly identifies patients, checks imaging orders, and assesses pregnancy risk.
- Explains procedures to patients with professionalism and compassion.
- Performs IV cannulation as prescribed and iStat testing.
- Positions patients for comfort and modesty, selects proper imaging protocols, and adjusts exposure techniques.
- Operates power injectors for contrast media administration under direct supervision.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and practices radiation safety.
- Operates post-processing workstations, critiques exams, and ensures accurate labeling and archival.
- Follows infection control and safety guidelines, cleans scanner and exam rooms, and stocks assigned rooms.
- Protocols exams for the next day, flagging contraindications and requesting revised orders.
- Coordinates all aspects of care for CT patients, including transportation and communication with nursing units.
- Notifies Lead CT Technologist or Manager of equipment malfunctions and places BioMed tickets.
- Maintains and models Nuvance Health Values.
- Demonstrates regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
- Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to produce diagnostic CT images.
- Provides appropriate care to the age of the patient served by the department of radiology.
- Performs IV cannulation as prescribed by Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP), using aseptic technique as per NYS DOH Scope of Practice.
- Performs iStat testing in accordance with established policies.
- Operates power injectors in preparation for and administration of contrast media under the direct supervision of the supervising physician in accordance with department policy and regulatory standards.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and practices radiation safety.
- Is proficient in the operation of post processing workstations.
- Performs critique of exam for completeness and correct labeling.
- Is responsible for accurate and timely exam verification within the hospital’s RIS system and archival of completed studies to the PACS system.
- Follows infection control and safety guidelines, cleans and disinfects scanner and exam rooms.
- Properly stocks assigned room prior to the start and end of shift.
- Protocols exams for the next day to ensure that the examinations were scheduled properly, flag any contraindications and requests revised orders as necessary.
- Coordinates all aspects of care for the CT patient to include, but not limited to: coordination, and participation as necessary, of patient transportation to the appropriate areas, communicates pertinent patient information with nursing units, exercises ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing their duties, maintains strict patient confidentiality, monitors patient’s comfort while in the CT department.
- Notifies Lead CT Technologist or Manager when equipment malfunctions and places appropriate BioMed ticket.

- Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance and consistently documents such in the hospital’s scheduling / payroll system.
- Performs other duties as required.
