About the Role

Animal Specialty Center is expanding its specialty services with a new Veterinary Dentistry & Oral Surgery department and seeks an experienced, motivated, and patient-focused Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to help build this service. This role offers a unique opportunity to become a key member of a growing specialty team, play an integral role in advanced dental procedures, and help establish best practices for a developing department.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document complete patient assessments.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
  • Provide exceptional nursing care to hospitalized and outpatient dental patients.
  • Monitor patient comfort and advocate for pain management needs.
  • Educate clients on dental health, treatment plans, home care, and discharge instructions.
  • Assist clinicians with advanced dental and oral surgical procedures.
  • Perform dental radiographs and ensure diagnostic-quality imaging.
  • Prepare patients for dental procedures, including positioning, instrumentation, and aseptic preparation.
  • Maintain dental equipment and operatories to ensure safe and efficient workflow.
  • Assist with oral examinations, charting, extractions, biopsies, maxillofacial procedures, and other specialty dentistry services.
  • Maintain accurate dental records and treatment documentation.
  • Induce, intubate, monitor, and recover patients undergoing dental and oral surgical procedures.
  • Utilize advanced anesthetic monitoring equipment.
  • Recognize and respond to anesthetic complications.
  • Administer anesthesia and sedation under veterinary supervision.
  • Develop individualized anesthetic monitoring plans for complex cases.
  • Obtain and interpret diagnostic-quality dental radiographs.
  • Assist with CT imaging and other advanced diagnostic procedures when indicated.
  • Collect and process laboratory samples.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot dental imaging equipment.
  • Prepare surgical suites and maintain aseptic technique.
  • Assist clinicians during oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and packs.
  • Ensure proper sterilization and infection control practices.
  • Maintain dental units, handpieces, radiology equipment, and monitoring devices.
  • Assist with ordering and inventory management of dental supplies and instruments.
  • Ensure regulatory and safety compliance within the department.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology Program.
  • Current Veterinary Technician License (LVT).
  • Strong anesthesia and patient monitoring skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced specialty environment.
  • Commitment to exceptional patient care and client service.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, reach, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely restrain patients of varying sizes.
  • Visual and manual dexterity necessary for anesthesia monitoring, dentistry instrumentation, and patient care.
