About the Role

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families. The Division of Youth and Family Justice (DYFJ) provides services and programs for youth in the juvenile justice system, aiming to build stronger communities, offer therapeutic treatment, and help juveniles transition out of the system. This role involves managing programming within a juvenile detention facility.

Responsibilities

  • Directly manage, coordinate, and lead the day-to-day implementation and facilitation of programming within a juvenile detention facility.
  • Directly supervise a Unit of Program staff and actively participate in staff development and training.
  • Collaborate with vendor and partner program staff, volunteers, and facility operations staff to design and implement youth and family-focused events and programming.
  • Ensure the development, completion, distribution, and maintenance of reports and documentation.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with the Department of Education, behavioral and mental health staff, and DYFJ facility staff.
  • Represent the programming unit at meetings and conferences to support care and behavior plans.
  • Assist the Director of Programs with data collection, trend identification, incident review, policy review, facility tours, and operational issue mitigation.

Requirements

  • Candidate must be willing to travel across ACS secure detention facilities.
  • Candidate must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
  • Section 424-A of the New York Social Services Law requires inquiry regarding child abuse and maltreatment reports for candidates with child-caring responsibilities.

  • Master's degree from an accredited college in sociology, psychology, education, public administration or a closely related field
