About the Role

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Infrastructure, is seeking an Engineer-in-Charge to join the Construction’s Bronx/North Queens – Section 2 team. This role involves coordinating and supervising a team, conducting constructability reviews, ensuring accurate project information, and resolving field problems.

Responsibilities

• Coordinating and supervising a team of Resident Engineers, Office Engineers, Inspectors, and Junior Engineers.
• Conducting constructability review meetings to minimize construction delays.
• Ensuring accurate compilation of project information.
• Generating project data to aid in the resolution of field problems.
• Providing information to Design, Engineering Services’ Utility Coordination team, and Program Management Units during construction.
• Inspecting contracted work for compliance with Agency and City policies and standards.
• Generating cost proposals and estimates for contract price negotiations.
• Evaluating and making recommendations on design and redesign modifications of engineering structures.
• Attending pre-alignment meetings.
• Serving as the Agency's on-site representative.
• Meeting and coordinating with public and private sector representatives to minimize disruption and construction impact.
• Developing and training employees.

Requirements

• Must be permanent in the Construction Project Manager title or reachable on the open-competitive lists (exam #3042 or exam #5058).
• Must include a copy of your Notice of Results or indicate if permanent in the title.
• ACI Concrete Field-Testing and OSHA 10-hour Certified or willingness to take DDC-offered training.
• Currently authorized to work full-time in the United States.
• Must present original documents proving citizenship or legal right to work in the U.S.
• Must have proper work authorization when an employment offer is made.
• Educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited institution.
• A four-year high school diploma or equivalent, and five years of full-time satisfactory experience managing and/or inspecting construction projects with a total cost of at least $300,000 for each year of experience.
• One year of the described experience and a baccalaureate degree in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, architectural technology, landscape architecture, construction, construction technology, or construction management.
• One year of the described experience and a valid license as a professional engineer, registered architect, or registered landscape architect.
• A four-year high school diploma or equivalent, and a combination of at least two years of experience and education as described above to equal a total of five years.
• Matriculation in an undergraduate college degree program may substitute for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits for one year of experience, up to three years.
• Must specify for each construction project: description, time period, type of work performed, and money allotted.
• Must have a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York at the time of appointment and maintained for the duration of employment.
• For Assignment to Level II: One additional year of satisfactory full-time experience in Assignment Level I or equivalent experience.
• For Assignment to Level III: Two additional years of satisfactory full-time experience in Construction Project Manager Assignment Level I and II or equivalent experience, and a valid New York State driver license.
