About the Role

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Infrastructure is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join the Engineering Services – Specifications team. The role involves evaluating foundation support systems, performing geotechnical studies, and providing engineering support during construction.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the appropriate and most cost-effective foundation support system.
  • Evaluate the bearing capacity of shallow and deep foundations.
  • Perform geotechnical studies/projects in subsurface investigations.
  • Perform soil/foundation engineering.
  • Perform pile analysis and design.
  • Perform retaining wall analysis and design.
  • Perform bridge structure analysis and design.
  • Perform settlement analysis.
  • Perform lateral earth pressure analysis.
  • Perform slope stability analysis.
  • Perform forensic engineering.
  • Conduct site investigations.
  • Write reports.
  • Provide geotechnical engineering support during construction.

Requirements

  • Only candidates who are permanent in the Administrative Project Manager title or those who are reachable on the DDC promotional list (exam #5565) or the open-competitive list (exam #5164) may apply.
  • Must include a copy of your Notice of Results or indicate if you are permanent in the title.
  • All candidates must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States (U.S.).
  • Candidates are required to present original documents proving citizenship or the legal right to work in the U.S.
  • DDC is unable to support or sponsor any visa application or visa extension.
  • DDC does not offer a training program as required by U.S. immigration law and is not hiring temporary employees.
  • Candidates must have proper work authorization when an employment offer is made.
  • Educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited institution.
  • Credentials from foreign institutions require independent equivalency verification from an approved evaluation service.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, business administration, or public administration, and five years of full-time satisfactory experience in the planning, administering or expediting of engineering design, and/or construction, or coordinating a very large engineering project, two years of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity.
  • A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and nine years of experience as described above, two years of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity.
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the above.
  • An accredited Master's degree in one of the disciplines described above, a law degree, or a valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect or Landscape Architect may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • All candidates must have the two years of the administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory experience as described above.
