About the Role

The Department of Design & Construction (DDC) is seeking Resident Engineers to join their Construction Management Unit. These roles involve supervising and performing work on assigned contracts, ensuring compliance with project requirements, and serving as the agency's on-site representative.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing and coordinating daily work schedules with contractors.
• Meeting regularly to identify and resolve project-related issues.
• Reviewing and evaluating contractors’ proposed progress schedules.
• Monitoring contractors’ conformance to schedules and recommending corrective actions.
• Supervising and/or performing construction inspection operations.
• Ensuring compliance with contract requirements and addressing hazardous conditions.
• Maintaining accurate daily logs of project activities.
• Initiating the preparation of field memoranda, letters, and accident reports.
• Responding to community inquiries and complaints.
• Preparing comprehensive reports as required.
• Meeting and coordinating with public and private sector representatives to minimize disruption.
• Supervising the work of Inspectors and Junior Engineers.
• Developing and training employees.

Requirements

• Must be permanent in the Associate Project Manager title, or reachable on DDC’s promotional list for exam #3573 or the open-competitive list for exam #3110.
• Must include a copy of your Notice of Results or indicate if you are permanent in the title.
• Must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States (U.S.).
• Must present original documents proving citizenship or legal right to work in the U.S.
• DDC is unable to support or sponsor any visa application or visa extension.
• Must have proper work authorization when an employment offer is made.
• Educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited institution.
• Credentials from foreign institutions require independent equivalency verification.
• One year of full-time satisfactory experience in supervising employees performing project management work (planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting) on engineering, architectural, or landscape architectural projects, or supervising a construction project valued at $1,000,000 or more.
• Option 1: Baccalaureate degree in a relevant field and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in project management work.
• Option 2: Four-year high school diploma or equivalent and five years of experience as described above.
• Option 3: Four-year high school diploma or equivalent plus a combination of college education and/or experience equivalent to five years.
• One year of experience credit is given for specific semester credits, a Master’s degree, a Juris Doctor degree, or a valid NYS Professional Engineer, Registered Architect, or Registered Landscape Architect license.
• Experience primarily of a design nature is not acceptable.
• Additional one year of experience in a supervisory capacity or as a project manager for a large/complex construction project (for Assignment Level I).
• Additional two years of experience in a supervisory capacity or as a project manager for a large/complex construction project (for Assignment Level I).
