About the Role

The Department of Design & Construction, Division of Infrastructure, is seeking a Resident Engineer to join their Construction Management Unit's Bronx/North Queens team. This role involves supervising and performing construction inspection operations, ensuring compliance with contract requirements, and serving as the agency's on-site representative.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and perform work on assigned contracts.
• Review and coordinate daily work schedules with contractors.
• Identify and resolve project-related issues.
• Evaluate contractors’ proposed progress schedules.
• Monitor contractors’ conformance to schedules.
• Recommend corrective actions for deviations.
• Supervise and/or perform construction inspection operations.
• Ensure compliance with contract requirements.
• Prevent or immediately correct hazardous conditions.
• Maintain accurate and detailed daily logs of project activities.
• Initiate the preparation of field memoranda, letters, and accident reports.
• Respond to community inquiries and complaints.
• Prepare comprehensive reports as required.
• Serve as the Agency's on-site representative.
• Coordinate with public and private sector representatives to minimize disruption.
• Supervise the work of Inspectors and Junior Engineers.
• Develop and train employees.

Requirements

• Must be permanent in the Construction Project Manager title, reachable on the Open Competitive Exam #3042 or Exam #5058.
• Include a copy of your Notice of Results or indicate if you are permanent in the title.
• Must have a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York.
• License must be maintained for the duration of employment.
• Moving violations, license suspension, or an accident record may lead to disqualification.
• Specify for each construction project worked on: description, time period, type of work performed, and project budget.
• ACI Concrete Field -Testing and OSHA 10-hour Certified or complete DDC-offered training.
• Must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States.
• Present original documents proving citizenship or legal right to work.
• DDC is unable to support or sponsor any visa application or extension.
• Must have proper work authorization when an employment offer is made.
• Educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited institution.
• Foreign credentials require independent equivalency verification.

Experience Level

• Five years of full-time satisfactory experience managing and/or inspecting construction projects with a total cost of at least $300,000 for each of the five years.
• One year of experience as described above plus a baccalaureate degree in a relevant field.
• One year of experience as described above plus a valid professional engineer, registered architect, or registered landscape architect license.
• Combination of experience and education totaling five years.
• Assignment to Level II requires one additional year of experience in Assignment Level I or similar experience.
• Assignment to Level III requires two additional years of experience in Construction Project Manager Assignment Level I and II or similar experience.

Education Level

• Four-year high school diploma or equivalent
• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, architectural technology, landscape architecture, construction, construction technology, or construction management (can substitute for one year of experience)
• Matriculation in an undergraduate college degree program can substitute for experience on a 30 semester credit for one year basis, up to three years.
