About the Role

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Infrastructure, is seeking Engineers-in-Charge to coordinate and supervise engineering teams, conduct constructability reviews, ensure project information accuracy, and resolve field problems. The role involves inspecting contracted work, generating cost proposals, evaluating design modifications, and serving as the agency's on-site representative.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and supervise a team of Resident Engineers, Office Engineers, Inspectors, and Junior Engineers.
Conduct constructability review meetings to minimize construction delays.
Ensure project information is compiled accurately.
Generate project data to aid in the resolution of field problems.
Provide information to Design, Engineering Services’ Utility Coordination team, and Program Management Units during construction.
Inspect contracted work to ensure compliance with Agency and City policies and standards.
Generate cost proposals and estimates for contract price negotiations.
Evaluate and make recommendations on design and redesign modifications of engineering structures.
Attend pre-alignment meetings.
Serve as the Agency's on-site representative.
Meet and coordinate with public and private sector representatives to minimize disruption and construction impact.
Develop and train employees.

Requirements

Only candidates who are permanent in the Civil Engineer title, those who are reachable on DDC Promotional List (Exam #4522), or reachable on the Open-Competitive List (Exam #4030) may apply.
Include a copy of your Notice of Results card or indicate if you are already permanent in the title.
Must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States (U.S.).
Must present original documents proving citizenship or the legal right to work in the U.S.
Must have proper work authorization when an employment offer is made.
Applicants must be ACI Concrete Field -Testing and OSHA 10-hour Certified or take the first available DDC - offered training session.
Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work.
A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License.
Current New York State registration as a Professional Engineer must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
For Assignment Levels II and III, individuals must have at least one year within the last three years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise.
