About the Role

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Infrastructure, is seeking Engineers-in-Charge to join one of our Construction Management units. Successful candidates will coordinate and supervise a team, conduct constructability reviews, ensure accurate project information, and resolve field problems. They will also inspect contracted work, generate cost proposals, evaluate design modifications, and represent the agency on-site.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and supervise a team of Resident Engineers, Office Engineers, Inspectors, and Junior Engineers.
Conduct constructability review meetings to minimize construction delays.
Ensure project information is compiled accurately.
Generate project data to aid in the resolution of field problems.
Provide information to Design, Engineering Services’ Utility Coordination team, and Program Management Units during construction.
Inspect contracted work to ensure compliance with Agency and City policies and standards.
Generate cost proposals and estimates for contract price negotiations.
Evaluate and make recommendations on design and redesign modifications of engineering structures.
Attend pre-alignment meetings.
Serve as the Agency's on-site representative, coordinating with public and private sector representatives to minimize disruption.
Develop and train employees.

Requirements

Must be permanent in the Construction Project Manager title or have passed Open-Competitive exam #3042 or 5058.
Include a copy of Notice of Results, Proof of Filing, or indicate permanent status.
Must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States.
Must present original documents proving citizenship or legal right to work.
DDC is unable to support or sponsor any visa application or extension.
Must have proper work authorization when an employment offer is made.
ACI Concrete Field-Testing and OSHA 10-hour Certified or complete DDC-offered training.
Educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited institution.
Credentials from foreign institutions require independent equivalency verification.
Specify for each construction project: description, time period, type of work, and project cost.
Must have a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York at the time of appointment and maintained for the duration of employment.
May be disqualified for moving violations, license suspension, or accident record.

Experience Level

5 years of full-time satisfactory experience managing and/or inspecting construction projects with a total cost of at least $300,000 per year.
1 year of experience as described above plus a baccalaureate degree in a relevant field.
1 year of experience as described above plus a professional engineer, registered architect, or registered landscape architect license.
Combination of experience and education totaling five years.
1 additional year of experience for Assignment to Level II.
2 additional years of experience for Assignment to Level III.

Education Level

Four-year high school diploma or equivalent.
Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, architectural technology, landscape architecture, construction, construction technology, or construction management.
