About the Role

This supervisory position will oversee the installation and maintenance of vertical elements, bus stop infrastructure, and signage along priority bus corridors in New York City. The role supports the City's Bus Action Plan by ensuring successful implementation of bus priority improvements to enhance bus speed, reliability, accessibility, and rider experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the comprehensive operations involving the preparation, installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic control devices, including vertical elements, traffic signs, structures, and their supports.
• Supervise and train staff in all aspects of warehousing, production, installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.
• Maintain an inventory control system.
• Manage absence control calendars.
• Evaluate staff performance.
• Implement improvements in operational procedures.
• Maintain the physical upkeep of all work locations and warehouse areas.
• Enforce strict compliance with all agency safety rules and regulations.
• Promote the correct usage of safety equipment and gear.
• Perform field observations and audits.
• Coordinate daily work assignments.
• Close out completed work.
• Manage personnel.
• Operate a motor vehicle.

Requirements

• Must be reachable on DOT's promotion list.
• At least two years of experience as a Traffic Device Maintainer working for the NYC Department of Transportation; or Three years of recent, satisfactory, full-time experience maintaining, servicing and repairing mechanical equipment or experience of a nature similar to the duties described above, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
• Possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York, to be maintained for the duration of employment.
• For appointment to certain positions, a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) valid in the State of New York, with no restrictions, is required and must be maintained for the duration of employment.
• Candidates will be examined to determine whether they can perform the essential functions of the position.
• Must pass a drug screening.
• New hires must reside in NYC for the first two years of employment.
• Appointments are subject to OMB approval.

Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
• Strong overall computer skills.
• Experience supervising staff.
• Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing the Department of Transportation’s Sign Information Management System (SIMS).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
