About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Lawyer (In-House Advocate - Children) to join Brent’s impressive Civic Centre. This role involves actively supporting the management of the department, providing expert legal advice on children’s social services law, and conducting high-quality advocacy in various courts.
Responsibilities
- Actively support the management of the department.
- Provide high-level and proactive expert legal advice on children’s social services law to the Council, its members, and officers.
- Serve as a point of contact for members and senior officers on legal matters pertaining to Children public law.
- Attend court or tribunals or public inquiries as a Senior Advocate.
- Conduct high-quality advocacy in the High Court, Family Court, and Coroners Court, including all hearings up to contested/complex hearings.
- Monitor the quality of work undertaken by the team.
Requirements
- Experience of conducting Children public law hearings from urgent/first appointments to contested final hearings.
- Must provide a supporting statement clearly showing how essential requirements are met.
- CV accepted in support of application, but supporting statement is required.
- Posts working with children, young people, and vulnerable adults are subject to an Enhanced DBS check and other employment clearances.
- Must be willing to attend court, with the local court being West London Family Court.
