About the Role

Cancer Research UK is seeking a motivated Assistant Shop Manager to join their trading team in St Helier, Jersey. This role involves acting as an ambassador for the charity, supporting the Shop Manager and team to maximize income through people, resources, and stock in a fast-paced and varied environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Shop Manager to guide, inspire and engage a diverse team of paid staff and volunteers.
  • Supporting the commercial running of the store, including display and merchandising, stock management, maintaining shop standards, store layout, sales and income.
  • Leading by example and providing excellent customer and supporter service.
  • Working alongside the Shop Manager to achieve targets for donated stock, cash, Gift Aid, average selling price, sell-through and stock processing.
  • Creating relationships with the local community, customers, supporters and Cancer Research UK colleagues.
  • Supporting the Shop Manager in the organisation and delivery of creative fundraising events.
  • Maintaining compliance with health and safety, safeguarding, security, administration and HR policies.
  • Deputising for the Shop Manager in their absence.
  • Contributing to the dynamic day-to-day running of a very busy shop.
  • Performing manual handling and physical activity as required.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible to work in the UK and Jersey.
  • Working knowledge of what makes great customer service.
  • Experience of working in a lively, busy and customer-focused environment.
  • A positive, hands-on approach and willingness to get stuck in where needed.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in changing situations.
  • Ability to work effectively independently.
  • A willingness to learn, develop new skills and take on a variety of responsibilities.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
  • Enjoys being part of an island community and contributing to local causes.
  • Flexibility to work on a rota basis.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Satisfactory basic DBS check required.

Location

Work Type

  • Fixed-term contract until 1st February 2027
  • Full time 37.5 hours per week
  • Part time (2/3 days) 15 or 22.5 hours per week

Experience Level

  • Retail or hospitality experience would be advantageous
