About the Role
Zynga is seeking an Enemy Designer to join NaturalMotion's London studio. This role will focus on shaping the combat experience for a first-person shooter mobile title by implementing, adapting, and creating compelling enemies to deliver an authentic console experience on mobile. You will collaborate with design, art, animation, audio, and engineering teams to ensure polished, purposeful, and fun enemy encounters.
Responsibilities
- Design, prototype, and implement enemy behaviors, AI systems, boss encounters, and other features aligned with the game's creative vision.
- Guide enemies and bosses from initial concept through to shipping quality, ensuring they are complete, polished, and fun.
- Collaborate with Level Design & Combat Design to ensure enemies, factions, and NPCs meet their goals throughout development.
- Define and track required metrics to achieve design goals.
- Work closely with art, animation, audio, design, and engineering teams to build content and solve problems in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Develop and balance a diverse roster of enemies, bosses, and mutators.
- Create compelling AI behaviors and attack patterns that provide an exciting and challenging player experience.
- Analyze combat data, player feedback, and internal playtests to refine and iterate on enemy and boss designs.
- Manage multiple features at varying development stages concurrently, prioritizing effectively as content pipelines run in parallel.
- Document and communicate enemy and boss design concepts clearly to ensure cross-team alignment.
Requirements
- Previous experience in Combat / Enemy Design or an equivalent role in the video game industry.
- At least one shipped title in a design role for a Shooter / Action / RPG title.
- Experience designing and implementing enemy AI, behaviors, and encounters for action games.
- Experience working on a first-person or third-person game.
- Familiarity with the Unreal game engine.
- Ability to analyze gameplay data and player feedback to inform and balance design decisions.
- Strong visual & verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively across cross-disciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage multiple designs in a fast-paced development environment.
- Passionate about action games with a deep understanding of engaging enemy design.
