About the Role

General Practice Assistants (GPAs) are integral to primary care multidisciplinary teams, providing administrative support and potentially basic clinical duties. This role aims to free up GP time, ensure smooth appointment flow, and enhance the patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and respond to patient emails in the NHS email account.
  • Sort and prioritize incoming clinical post for GPs, signposting to other relevant professionals.
  • Extract and code information from clinical letters for patient notes.
  • Arrange patient appointments, referrals, and follow-up consultations.
  • Prepare patients for GP appointments by taking brief histories and basic readings.
  • Perform urine dips, take blood pressure, ECGs, and phlebotomy.
  • Complete basic forms (non-opinion) for GP approval, such as insurance, mortgage, and benefits agency forms.
  • Explain treatment procedures to patients.
  • Liaise with external agencies, such as contacting on-call doctors for advice or arranging admissions.
  • Support GPs with immunizations and wound care.

Requirements

  • Prior experience working in a receptionist or administrative role in a GP surgery.
  • Experience working with the general public.
  • Experience with administrative duties.
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting.

  • Onsite at practices or hub sites (South Westminster Centre)
