About the Role
CNN is seeking a Global Weekend Senior Multiplatform Editor for its EMEA headquarters in London to lead weekend news coverage and shape major global stories. This role is for a seasoned editor to oversee digital-first journalists worldwide, ensuring alignment across desks and timezones, and orchestrating coverage across digital text, video, TV, and visual-led journalism.
Responsibilities
- Lead the news agenda during EMEA hours on weekends, overseeing editorial in all formats and platforms, focusing on international and US national news.
- Act as the key editorial link between CNN’s APAC and US hubs.
- Prepare CNN’s US audience by advancing overnight stories and ensuring high-impact content.
- Direct the commissioning and execution of cross-platform content.
- Edit and write text-based editorial, including breaking news, analysis, and enterprise journalism.
- Guide the production and framing of video news in various formats, including mobile-first and broadcast.
- Serve as the decisive editorial authority during breaking news, mobilizing cross-format resources globally.
- Oversee the commissioning of distinctive news features, analysis, and enterprise stories for weekend offerings.
- Project manage network-priority events in coordination with bureaus, correspondents, planning teams, and global stakeholders.
- Coordinate with digital programming colleagues on headlines, push alerts, and promotional language for maximum visibility.
- Utilize real-time and long-term analytics to inform commissioning decisions and improve content delivery.
- Act as the formal line manager for EMEA-based reporters, providing direction, feedback, and growth opportunities.
- Help lead the wider newsroom team, fostering a culture of experimentation and multiplatform skills.
- Work every weekend and occasional evenings (Wednesday through Sunday shift pattern).
Requirements
- Willingness to work weekends as part of the standard weekly pattern.
- Proven news editing experience within leading digital-first news organizations.
- Demonstrated success steering coverage in high-pressure, breaking news environments.
- Deep knowledge of US politics/current affairs and international geopolitical dynamics.
- Extensive expertise editing and writing digital text stories.
- Solid operational experience working across video, TV, and visual-led formats.
- Sharp news judgment with an ability to think in headlines and frame complex global stories for a US morning audience.
- A strong desire to experiment with storytelling formats and engage a multiplatform audience.
- Exceptional planning and organizational skills.
- History of successfully executing complex all-platform coverage plans.
- Impeccable written and spoken English.
