About the Role

Octopus Energy Trading is seeking a Data Scientist to build data pipelines and create market-leading insights for the GB intraday power market. You will leverage both classical and machine learning techniques to forecast demand, renewables, and transmission system fundamentals, contributing to the company's mission of accelerating the transition to a Net Zero world.

Responsibilities

  • Explore data requirements for trading the GB intraday power market
  • Build, improve, and maintain models for forecasting electricity demand and renewable generation
  • Identify high-quality, novel data sources for forecasting
  • Develop forecasting frameworks and tools
  • Maintain and automate forecasting processes with integrated checks and alerts
  • Utilize forecasting models to build or enhance price forecasts
  • Collaborate with Trading, Renewables, and Flexibility teams to share knowledge and data

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Python
  • Understanding of forecasting techniques with the ability to build baselines and iterate
  • Ability to communicate technical approaches, strengths, and limitations
  • Capacity to quickly understand commercial and industry concepts
  • Team-oriented mindset with a desire for project ownership
  • Passion for driving towards Net Zero
  • Experience with Machine Learning
