About the Role

The Head of Tax, Platforms plays a critical role in supporting AMP’s North Platforms business, providing strategic leadership across tax governance, compliance, reporting and advisory activities for superannuation, pension, IDPS and managed portfolio products. The role delivers commercially focused tax advice that informs business decisions, product initiatives and transformation programs, strengthening tax risk management and ensuring compliance with AMP’s tax governance framework and evolving regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Platforms leadership to provide commercially focused tax advice on strategic initiatives, product developments, business changes and transformation programs.
  • Support decision-making by translating complex tax requirements into practical solutions that deliver exceptional customer and business outcomes.
  • Lead the Platforms tax governance and risk management framework, ensuring alignment with AMP's tax governance framework, risk appetite and regulatory obligations.
  • Oversee tax risk identification, controls, assurance activities, Board and Trustee reporting, and engagement with the ATO and other regulators.
  • Provide oversight of all Platforms tax compliance, reporting and tax effect accounting obligations, ensuring complete, accurate and timely reporting.
  • Oversee direct tax obligations, member tax reporting, corporate actions and continuous improvement of tax processes, controls and reporting capabilities.
  • Monitor and assess legislative, regulatory and ATO developments impacting Platforms and lead the implementation of significant tax and regulatory change initiatives.
  • Lead, develop and mentor a high-performing tax team, strengthening organisational capability across tax governance, risk management and business partnering.
  • Foster collaboration across Operations, Product, Finance, Legal and Risk teams while effectively balancing business-as-usual activities and strategic initiatives.

Requirements

  • 15+ years' experience in Australian tax advisory, tax governance, tax compliance and tax leadership roles.
  • Experience preparing and presenting advice, reporting and materials for Boards, Audit Committees, regulators and executive stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting tax aspects of major business-led projects, transformation programs and regulatory change initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience managing tax teams and developing professional capability.
  • Postgraduate qualification in taxation (such as a Master of Taxation) or Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) designation.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as The Tax Institute or a Law society.
  • Direct platforms experience across superannuation, IDPS and investment management, with a strong understanding of taxation issues relevant to platform products and structures.
  • Extensive expertise in tax compliance, reporting, tax effect accounting and the annual lifecycle of tax obligations for superannuation funds and IDPS members.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and operating tax governance, risk management and control frameworks, including tax risk identification, monitoring, remediation and continuous improvement.
  • In-depth knowledge of ATO assurance and engagement programs, including Combined Assurance Reviews and contemporary tax governance expectations.
  • Strong understanding of emerging tax, legislative and regulatory developments impacting financial services, with the ability to interpret complex requirements and translate them into practical business outcomes.
  • Proven track record of improving tax processes, controls, governance and reporting effectiveness.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and leadership experience, with the ability to influence decision-making through clear, practical advice in complex and highly regulated environments.
  • Track record of engaging effectively with Boards, Committees, regulators and senior business leaders, while demonstrating sound judgement, resilience and a strong risk mindset.
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams and driving successful outcomes through change and competing priorities.
