About the Role

Direct Support Professionals provide hands-on care, encouragement, and advocacy for individuals with developmental disabilities, helping them live independently and achieve their personal goals within their homes and communities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with personal care tasks including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
  • Support meal preparation, household chores, and home safety.
  • Administer medications as directed.
  • Facilitate attendance at medical appointments and adherence to treatment plans.
  • Assist with mobility, transfers, and the use of mobility aids.
  • Implement behavioral support strategies respectfully.
  • Provide encouragement to promote confidence and independence.
  • Plan and participate in recreational, educational, and social activities.
  • Encourage community involvement and social engagement.
  • Assist with communication tools to help individuals express themselves.
  • Advocate for individual needs, rights, and access to services.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and therapists for holistic care.
  • Maintain accurate records including daily notes, progress reports, and incident reports.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalency diploma.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Valid New York State Driver’s License with at least 2 years of driving experience.
  • Comfort operating a large vehicle.
  • Patience, compassion, and dedication to empowering others.
