About the Role
Direct Support Professionals provide hands-on care, encouragement, and advocacy for individuals with developmental disabilities, helping them live independently and achieve their personal goals within their homes and communities.
Responsibilities
- Assist with personal care tasks including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Support meal preparation, household chores, and home safety.
- Administer medications as directed.
- Facilitate attendance at medical appointments and adherence to treatment plans.
- Assist with mobility, transfers, and the use of mobility aids.
- Implement behavioral support strategies respectfully.
- Provide encouragement to promote confidence and independence.
- Plan and participate in recreational, educational, and social activities.
- Encourage community involvement and social engagement.
- Assist with communication tools to help individuals express themselves.
- Advocate for individual needs, rights, and access to services.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and therapists for holistic care.
- Maintain accurate records including daily notes, progress reports, and incident reports.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalency diploma.
- Fluent in English.
- Valid New York State Driver’s License with at least 2 years of driving experience.
- Comfort operating a large vehicle.
- Patience, compassion, and dedication to empowering others.
