About the Role
Promise is seeking an Engineering Lead to guide the technical vision and team for their Payment Plans platform. This role involves scaling the platform, building agentic workflows, and ensuring the technology reflects Promise's dignity-first values. The ideal candidate thrives at the intersection of technology, leadership, and mission impact.
Responsibilities
- Lead by doing: Build alongside the team and understand the product's intricacies.
- Own the roadmap: Partner with Product and Design to prioritize features, balancing usability, scalability, and impact.
- Build for scale & trust: Ensure the platform is secure, composable, and capable of supporting nationwide government and utility clients.
- Elevate the resident experience: Deliver features like flexible installments, smart reminders, and personalized plans.
- Stay hands-on: Dive into technical details, including debugging and performance optimization.
- Automate what matters: Leverage AI and automation to eliminate inefficiencies and reduce operational overhead.
- Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with Customer Success and Operations for seamless deployments and reliable performance.
- Raise the bar: Define and enforce standards for engineering quality, system reliability, and collaboration.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience building and scaling production software.
- At least 2 years of experience leading teams or projects.
- Strong background in backend systems, system design, and secure architecture.
- Experience working with legacy or third-party systems (government, fintech, or regulated industries a plus).
- Ability to turn complex challenges into simple, scalable solutions.
- Comfort operating in a fast-paced, feedback-driven environment with shifting priorities.
- Belief in Promise’s vision for equitable outcomes through better systems.
- US persons (US citizens and permanent residents) are required due to US government contracts.
- Candidates must reside in the US.
