About the Role

The ADA Faculty Research Office supports the Faculty's research strategy by enhancing research performance, fostering research culture, assisting with reporting, and providing guidance to academic staff and Higher Degree Researchers (HDR). The Graduate Research Officer (GRO) coordinates higher degree research administration within the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture, focusing on improving student experience and continuous improvement in HDR coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage HDR administration practices and reporting systems for assigned Schools and/or Centres.
  • Plan, develop, and maintain administrative procedures for admissions, enrollment, and candidature management.
  • Assist in the implementation of policies and guidelines, ensuring effective operation of Research Progress Reviews.
  • Set priorities and monitor workflows within the administrative team, supporting other Graduate Research Officers.
  • Act as the primary contact for internal and external stakeholders, managing communication and prioritizing tasks.
  • Review and monitor funding and resource allocation requests, including study spaces, equipment, and HDR funding applications.
  • Provide secretarial support to the Higher Degree Research Committee and other meetings.
  • Support the delivery of ADA Graduate Research projects, including induction workshops and events.
  • Oversee and ensure timely and accurate processing of higher degree research administration tasks.

Requirements

  • Hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience and/or equivalent competence.
  • Demonstrated experience providing effective customer service and support.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, influence, and guide staff.
  • Highly advanced interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate projects and tasks.
  • Highly proficient computer literacy with excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent numeracy skills with the ability to understand and communicate financial information and monitor budgets.
  • Recent HDR candidate or strong administrator with insight into UNSW practices is advantageous.
  • Strong organization and communication skills are required.
  • Ability to leverage existing HDR policies and workflow procedures.
  • Must have working rights in Australia.
  • Must be able to be on site in Kensington regularly.
