About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on People Director to own our people strategy and shape the culture, performance, and growth of an organization focused on philanthropy. • Coach and support managers in performance management and oversee learning and development.
  • Oversee end-to-end hiring and onboarding processes to ensure a high-quality candidate and new-joiner experience.
  • Design and oversee competitive, equitable global compensation and benefits frameworks.
  • Serve as the key point of contact for employee relations and ensure compliance with legal obligations in the UK, US, and Germany.
  • Lead, develop, and inspire a distributed team of four.
  • Maintain the Headcount Model and People Budget, provide performance data, lead workforce planning, and drive process improvements, including through technology and AI.

Requirements

  • Senior generalist HR experience in lean environments (start-ups, agile SMEs, or lean non-profits).
  • Scrappy approach to delivering results without corporate budgets or large teams.
  • Deep, practical knowledge of employment law, payroll, and compliance across the UK and US (German experience is a plus).
  • Proven ability to move fluidly between high-level organizational strategy and hands-on operational delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience coaching, influencing, and partnering with C-suite leaders.
  • Comfort with people data and analytics to drive decisions and measure HR initiative effectiveness.
  • Experience leading organizational change in complex, distributed environments.
  • Exceptional emotional intelligence with the ability to build trust and navigate sensitive employee issues.
  • Must be within commutable distance of London for 1-2 days per week in the office.
