About the Role

Regional Lead – Application Maintenance & Operations acts as the primary Technology partner for Japan Business Operations, ensuring stable, secure, and reliable performance of BD critical application landscape. This role acts as the escalation point for Business stakeholders and owns application performance, incident resolution, service continuity, compliance, security, and continuous improvement across SAP, JDE, Medicon, Dealer Portal, and compliance systems specific to the Region.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures stable, secure, and efficient operations across BD Enterprise System Landscape and compliance processes.
  • Manages SAP-related activities working with global outsourced vendor and support JDE–SAP integration and data consistency.
  • Oversees lifecycle management (maintenance, upgrades, decommissioning) of key platforms, including: Rebate Transaction Processing Database (including Zero Gravity), Sales data management (sell-in / sell-out / raw data), Local customer master data management, MuleSoft, and related middleware.
  • Ensures stability and performance of batch jobs, interfaces, and data transfers across SAP, JDNET, MDNET, EDI, Dealer Portal, and warehouse systems for both BD Japan and Medicon Japan.
  • Supports authentication modernization (OAuth/OpenID) and platform migrations.
  • Maintains application availability through proactive monitoring, capacity management, and incident prevention.
  • Owns resolution of production issues across applications such as SAP, JDE, MuleSoft, MDNET/JDNET, Dealer Portal, and reporting tools.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves data flow issues between systems (e.g., SAP → MuleSoft → WMS / Dealer Portal).
  • Manages recurring operational issues including: Invoice processing failures, batch job failures, and table locks; Data inconsistencies, transfer failures, and integration delays.
  • Coordinates Application Managed Services (AMS/AMO) vendors and outsourcing partners to ensure SLA adherence.
  • Leads root cause analysis and stabilization activities to improve system reliability and recovery time.
  • Leads coordination and issue resolution with global and local vendors.
  • Manages escalations across multiple vendors and ensures timely remediation.
  • Provides high-touch governance to ensure vendor delivery meets Japan-specific expectations in quality, speed, and precision.
  • Aligns vendor priorities with Japan business needs and operational requirements.
  • Bridges communication between global IT teams and local business stakeholders, including language and cultural alignment.
  • Oversees Japan-specific and externally hosted platforms including: MD-NET and JD-NET, 3PL Warehouse Management System (WMS).
  • Ensures seamless interoperability between SAP, MuleSoft, legacy systems, and third-party platforms.
  • Supports data exchange integrations (e.g., distributors, 3PL, external partners).
  • Maintains operational continuity for order processing, shipment handling, and EDI transactions.
  • Supports business and TDS members during internal and external audits and drives remediation actions.
  • Ensures compliance with corporate security standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Leads vulnerability remediation activities, including OS patching, certification renewals, and risk exception handling.
  • Maintains governance over Japan systems, including security, data integrity, and operational controls.
  • Manages MD-Net and JDNET certification renewal.
  • Identifies and implements automation opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
  • Supports initiatives such as Automated invoice generation (e.g., SAP PDF automation), Process optimization for data handling and system monitoring.
  • Facilitates automation ideation and weekly tracking of automation initiatives.
  • Collaborates with business and technical teams to introduce scalable AI-driven or rule-based solutions.
  • Partners with business stakeholders to address operational and system-related challenges.
  • Supports ad-hoc requests and solution development for existing applications.
  • Recommends enhancements or new solutions based on clear business cases.
  • Drives improvements in business processes such as order management, billing, and distributor operations.
  • Supports key initiatives including employee ID consolidation, data validation, and distributor data accuracy.

Requirements

  • Strong operational ownership, enterprise application expertise, vendor management capability, and experience managing complex, business-critical IT environments.
  • Strong ownership of operational stability, service delivery, vendor coordination, problem solving, communication, and escalation management in a global, multi-system environment.
  • Experience with SAP ECC, JDE, MuleSoft, EDI, middleware, managed file transfer, MDNET, JDNET, WMS, and enterprise integration platforms.
  • 8–10 years of progressive experience supporting distribution, logistics, order-to-cash, or related business operations.
  • Strong understanding of Japan-specific business systems and vendor ecosystem.
  • Experience in healthcare, medical device, or regulated industries preferred.
  • Japanese (fluent but native preferred); English (business proficient).
