About the Role
The Credit Risk Analyst reports to the Manager and is responsible for executing all aspects of the Quality Control (QC) program for residential mortgages. This key function ensures all loans are underwritten according to the Company's Credit Risk appetite, as defined by established policies, procedures, and best business practices. The role involves conducting reviews of defaulted loans to identify questionable lending decisions and propose recommendations. The candidate will possess expert-level data analytical skills to proactively identify emerging key risk indicators in funded loans, alongside a comprehensive understanding of OSFI Guideline B-20. The role requires developing and maintaining a collaborative relationship with the Residential Lending department, offering support and guidance while upholding the independence required to provide accurate reporting on the quality of advanced loans.
Responsibilities
- Execute post-funding QC reviews on residential loans following established procedures.
- Conduct specialized reviews on Early Payment Defaults and investigate questionable lending decisions.
- Deliver monthly written QC results and reporting to Business Units and Senior Management.
- Utilize a risk-based approach to select portfolio-level loan data for review.
- Monitor and track all policy exceptions and ensure required file remediations are completed.
- Proactively detect emerging risk indicators and propose improvements to procedure manuals and Quality Control (QC) protocols.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of Questbank's lending policies and regulatory requirements.
- Recommend revisions to Quality Control protocols and credit procedures, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
- Update and maintain the Credit Risk Quality Control Procedure Manual.
- Ensure all files adhere strictly to AML/ATF and "Know Your Client" (KYC) regulatory requirements.
- Proactively identify potential violations of internal policies or operational risk controls.
- Ensure adherence to the bank's policies and procedures regarding compliance and operational risk controls.
- Provide ongoing guidance to business units to ensure adherence to written procedures and policies.
- Assist in developing training tools and resources for residential underwriting teams.
Requirements
- Professional fluency in both English and French (written and verbal).
- 5+ years in Alt-A mortgage underwriting.
- A minimum of 3+ years of direct Quality Control experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in residential mortgage underwriting practices, including adherence to Guideline B20 and income documentation requirements.
- Strong working knowledge of KYC, AML, and ATF regulations.
- Proficiency in report preparation using G Suite and Microsoft Office.
- Advanced analytical, logical thinking, and data analysis skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to effectively manage 2nd/1st Line dynamics.
- High attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines under pressure.
