About the Role

Lead data science research and train the next generation of AI graduates and researchers. This role involves setting research direction in machine learning, shaping research and teaching, mentoring staff and candidates, and leading curriculum development. You will also build industry partnerships and contribute to the responsible use of AI.

Responsibilities

• Set the research direction for machine learning within the School of Computer, Data and Mathematical Sciences.
• Shape research, teaching and engagement.
• Mentor academic staff and higher degree research candidates.
• Lead curriculum development that prepares graduates for careers in both research and industry.
• Build partnerships with industry, employers and government.
• Contribute to leadership in the responsible and trustworthy use of AI.

Requirements

• Deliver research that influences industry practice and the responsible use of AI.
• Build partnerships that connect students to employer pathways.
• Lead curriculum that prepares graduates for machine learning and AI roles.
• Grow research capability and mentor academic staff and HDR candidates.
• Respond to screening questions addressing key qualifications, experiences and skills.
• Provide a cover letter outlining motivation, vision for the discipline, and why Western is the right place for your work, and earliest possible start date.
• Provide a comprehensive academic CV detailing positions held, key achievements, education, professional training, qualifications, and research activity and outputs.
• Provide contact details for three referees, including relationship and reason for nomination.
