About the Role

With minimal supervision, this role is responsible for ensuring timely payment and current status of payer and patient account balances. It involves performing collection activities, resolving billing issues, and handling account inquiries within established guidelines. A degree of creativity and latitude is expected, and adherence to The US Oncology's Compliance Program, Code of Ethics, Business Standards, and Shared Values is mandatory.

Responsibilities

Monitor delinquent accounts and perform collection duties.
Review reports, research, and resolve issues.
Review payment postings for accuracy and to ensure account balances are current.
Collaborate with co-workers to resolve insurance payment and billing errors.
Monitor and update delinquent account statuses.
Recommend accounts for collection or write-off.
Contact patients to secure past due balances, verify demographics and insurance, update system information, and document conversations.
Answer patient payment, billing, and insurance questions and resolve complaints.
Refer patients to Patient Benefits Representative to set up payment plans.
Maintain credit balances of patients and payors, ensuring timely refunds within government guidelines.
Adhere to confidentiality, state, federal, and HIPPA laws and guidelines regarding patient records.
Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum two (2) years combined medical billing and payment experience required.
Demonstrate knowledge of state, federal, and third-party claims processing.
Demonstrate knowledge of state & federal collections guidelines.
Must successfully complete required e-learning courses within 90 days of occupying the position.
