About the Role
Grow and develop a book of complex construction-focused inland marine risks, applying deep technical judgment, market insight, and data-driven analysis to evaluate project exposures, select profitable business, and develop appropriate coverage, terms, conditions, deductibles, limits, and pricing. Partner with senior leaders and internal experts to develop creative solutions for complex accounts.
Responsibilities
- Underwrite and manage construction-focused business, evaluating various account types and making data-driven decisions on risk selection, coverage, pricing, terms, conditions, deductibles, and limits.
- Build profitable broker and client relationships by managing a portfolio, maintaining market presence, and developing new opportunities aligned with the company's appetite.
- Apply technical and market expertise to analyze complex construction exposures and articulate coverage differences, wording, valuation, and other inland marine issues.
- Manage portfolio performance and accumulation by providing data-driven insights into profitability, rate adequacy, growth, concentration, and accumulation.
- Collaborate effectively with various internal departments such as Claims, Actuarial, Legal, and Distribution to deliver sound decisions and improve outcomes.
- Drive underwriting excellence by participating in initiatives to improve underwriting quality, processes, tools, and consistency.
- Develop talent and share expertise by mentoring, coaching, and training underwriters and partners on construction risk assessment, coverage analysis, pricing, and portfolio management.
Requirements
- A minimum of 7 years expected, typically 10 years or more, of progressive underwriting experience and/or other related business experience.
- Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within scope of responsibility.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex analyses and information in understandable written and/or oral directives.
- Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
- Must demonstrate comprehension of most complex technical underwriting issues and be capable of defining and implementing necessary underwriting and administrative processes/workflows.
- Proven track record of developing and underwriting profitable business.
