About the Role
Vantage is seeking an experienced and commercially astute Director, Energy & Power Origination to lead the development and execution of the company's power strategy across Japan. This role will be instrumental in securing the energy infrastructure required to support Vantage's data center growth ambitions, ensuring power availability remains a key competitive advantage in an increasingly constrained market.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute Vantage's long-term power and energy strategy for Japan.
- Identify, originate and secure power opportunities to support future data center developments.
- Lead negotiations for renewable energy procurement, corporate PPAs, utility supply agreements, behind-the-meter solutions, battery storage opportunities and other innovative energy structures.
- Assess power market dynamics, regulatory developments, pricing trends and emerging technologies to identify opportunities and mitigate risks.
- Support customer sustainability objectives through renewable energy procurement and decarbonization initiatives.
- Provide strategic guidance to executive leadership regarding energy market developments and competitive positioning.
- Establish and maintain executive-level relationships with utilities, transmission operators, regulators, government agencies and key industry stakeholders.
- Secure preliminary and long-term utility capacity required for current and future campus developments.
- Represent Vantage in discussions with utilities, regulators and industry groups regarding power infrastructure development and energy policy.
- Develop strategies to address grid capacity constraints, transmission limitations and network expansion requirements.
- Oversee utility connection, energization and power delivery activities across active development projects.
- Partner with Development, Construction and Operations teams to ensure power infrastructure is delivered on schedule and aligned with project objectives.
- Monitor key milestones associated with utility design, permitting, approval and energization processes.
- Manage risks related to power delivery, network upgrades and utility dependencies.
- Ensure successful handover of utility infrastructure and energy-related assets into operational environments.
- Support customer-facing energy discussions during the sales lifecycle, including participation in strategic client engagements where required.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in power markets, utilities, energy infrastructure, renewable energy, energy origination or related sectors.
- Deep understanding of Japan's electricity market, utility framework and regulatory environment.
- Proven track record originating and negotiating complex energy transactions, including utility supply agreements and renewable procurement arrangements.
- Experience working with Japanese utilities, regulators and major energy market participants.
- Strong commercial, negotiation and relationship management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior executives, external stakeholders and strategic partners.
- Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure, industrial or data center developments is highly desirable.
- Business-level Japanese and English language capability strongly preferred.
