About the Role

The Associate Program Director (APD) of Emergency Medicine assists the Program Director in the leadership, administration, development, and evaluation of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program. The APD ensures compliance with ACGME requirements, supports resident education and mentorship, and promotes excellence in clinical training, scholarship, and patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Program Director to oversee the Emergency Medicine Residency Program.
  • Assist with strategic planning, curriculum development, and program evaluation.
  • Serve as a member of the residency program leadership team.
  • Act on behalf of the Program Director as needed.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate educational curricula and learning experiences.
  • Monitor resident progress, competency achievement, and professional development.
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and career guidance to residents.
  • Facilitate resident remediation plans when necessary.
  • Participate in resident recruitment, selection, and onboarding activities.
  • Ensure compliance with ACGME, institutional, and department requirements.
  • Assist with accreditation reviews, program evaluations, and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to resident performance and educational activities.
  • Participate in Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) and Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) activities.
  • Support faculty engagement in resident education.
  • Promote teaching excellence and faculty development initiatives.
  • Coordinate educational responsibilities among faculty members.
  • Maintain an active clinical practice within the Emergency Department.
  • Demonstrate excellence in patient care and evidence-based medicine.
  • Serve as a role model for residents and medical students.
  • Encourage resident and faculty scholarship.
  • Participate in research, quality improvement, and educational innovation projects.
  • Support resident presentations, publications, and academic development.
  • Assist with program budgets and resource management.
  • Coordinate educational conferences, schedules, and educational activities.
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership, graduate medical education (GME) offices, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
  • Board Certification in Emergency Medicine.
  • Eligible for or currently licensed to practice medicine.
  • Experience in graduate medical education and resident teaching.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Prior experience as a residency faculty member or educational leader.
  • Fellowship training or advanced education in medical education, administration, or leadership.
  • Demonstrated scholarly activity and academic achievements.
