About the Role

This position is assigned to work at The Long Island State Veterans Home, a skilled nursing facility dedicated to the care of honorably discharged Veterans of the United States Armed Forces, their spouses and Gold Star parents. Responsibilities

• Performs dental services under the supervision of a licensed dentist.
• Places and exposes diagnostic dental X-ray films.
• Removes deposits, growths, and stains from the exposed surfaces of the teeth and applies topical agents for dental treatment.
• Removes cement, places or removes rubber dam, removes sutures, and places matrix band.
• Performs topical medication, fluoride, and anesthetic applications.
• Polishes teeth, including existing restorations.
• Takes impressions for study casts.
• Places and removes temporary restorations.
• May perform all services properly performed by a Dental Assistant.
• Takes medical history and charts dental caries.
• Teaches proper hygiene techniques for teeth and gums and develops individual at-home oral hygiene programs.
• Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Requirements

• Must have taken and passed the specific job related Civil Service Exam and be reachable on the appropriate Civil Service list.
• 70.1 Transfer Candidates must have been appointed from a Civil Service List and have served permanently in an appropriate title(s) for one year.
• Transfers must be within two salary grades.
• To be considered for a non competitive NY HELPS appointment, candidate must be in possession of a license and current registration to practice Dental Hygiene in New York State.

• Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook University's Employee Health Services.
• Clear a background investigation.
• Submit (3) written references.
• Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
