About the Role

The School Aide is a key member of the Restorative Action Department (RAD) and supports the School Operations Team. This role works closely with others on the RAD team to ensure student compliance with the Innovation Code of Conduct and implementation of our PBIS and restorative approach to discipline. The School Aide also supports the School Operations Team with administrative and general school operations tasks.

Responsibilities

• Monitors and helps to promote smooth student arrival, dismissal, and hallway transitions
• Administers discipline in accordance with the school’s Charter, student discipline code, and local, state, and federal law and regulations
• Provides student management support to staff through the implementation and modeling of research-based behavior interventions
• Collaborates with other RAD team members to ensure restorative justice and PBIS practices are applied consistently
• Recognize safety issues and follow procedures when disruptive, abusive, or dangerous behavior occurs
• Participate in shared-decision making activities and function as a positive member of the RAD team
• Provide additional support with administrative tasks such as student records, documentation, and data entry
• Contribute to attendance tracking and phone calls to families
• Collaborate with School Operations team members to execute school events and celebrations

Requirements

• At least one year of experience working with adolescents or high school students in a school setting or other youth-serving organization
• Track record of effectively navigating conflict and working with young people who may be experiencing challenges
• Experience maintaining confidentiality and using good judgment
• Up-to-date fingerprint clearance from NYSED in TEACH is preferred
• Authorization to work in the U.S. is required
• Frequently moves or transports equipment and inventory weighing up to 50 pounds

Skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Basic knowledge of effective behavior management strategies
• Strong organizational skills and time management
• Training in PBIS, restorative practices, youth mental first aid, or non-violent verbal and physical crisis intervention techniques is preferred
• CPR/First Aid certification is preferred
• Spanish language skills are preferred
