About the Role
The Lead Automation Developer is responsible for leading, supporting, and executing projects and initiatives to drive the transformation of HR through AI and Intelligent Automation. This role will support the Robotic Process Automation and Intelligent Automation team through analysis, design, development, and support activities. This role will collaborate closely with Operations, Technology, and Business teams to capture requirements, streamline, and automate processes using cutting-edge AI and intelligent automation technologies. This role will also partner with Technology Teams on production support and maintenance of existing automated solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and deploy enterprise-scale RPA and AI-powered intelligent automation solutions using advanced tools and AI-enabled automation frameworks, leveraging machine learning and cognitive technologies
- Lead automation for projects, including Payroll Modernization and Workday-to-SAP integration, reducing manual processing, improving data accuracy, and enabling intelligent decision-making through AI
- Analyze HR workflows to identify automation opportunities, document process flows, and recommend AI-driven improvements that enhance efficiency and decision-making
- Mentor junior RPA and intelligent automation developers, champion adoption of AI and automation best practices, and foster a culture of continuous innovation
- Partner with HR, IT, and business teams to align AI-powered automation solutions with organizational needs, manage expectations, and communicate complex technical concepts
- Ensure automations and AI implementations comply with RBC’s technical, security, regulatory, and ethical AI standards
- Stay current with AI, RPA, machine learning trends and emerging technologies to propose innovative solutions and maintain competitive advantage
- Monitor automation and AI solution performance, troubleshoot issues, implement enhancements, and optimize outcomes
Requirements
- 6+ years in RPA development and intelligent automation, with proven leadership in delivering automation projects
- 2+ years of experience in Workday-to-SAP integration (e.g., payroll, HR data synchronization), including API/middleware expertise
- 1+ years of hands-on experience with AI and machine learning applications in automation or business processes
- Expertise in RPA tools (Blue Prism), AI/ML frameworks, programming languages (e.g., Python, .NET), and process documentation
- Strong ability to prioritize tasks, manage risks, coordinate cross-functional teams, and deliver complex automation initiatives
- Exceptional verbal/written skills to translate technical and AI concepts for diverse stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience coaching team members to elevate technical and AI capabilities
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Understanding of SAP, Service Now, and Workday
- Understanding of Blue Prism Upgrade to version 7 or later and AI integration capabilities
- Understanding of programming languages such as C#, VB.net, and Python for AI/ML applications
- Experience with AI/ML tools and platforms (e.g., TensorFlow, Azure AI, AWS AI services)
- Knowledge of Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) and cognitive automation
- Blue Prism Associate Developer Certification, Blue Prism Developer Certification, or Blue Prism Certified Solution Designer
- Certifications in AI, machine learning, or advanced automation technologies
