About the Role
The Medical Assistant - Respite/Bridge will support clients in the Medical Respite Program, ambulatory clinic, or community locations to improve healthcare outcomes for patients experiencing homelessness. This role collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to provide essential healthcare services and support clients in their recovery and access to resources.
Responsibilities
- Deliver care to patients in diverse environments, ensuring all client needs are met.
- Assist with client intake, orientation, and program policies in the respite environment.
- Accompany clients to medical appointments and advocate during healthcare encounters.
- Assist with client discharge planning in the respite setting.
- Perform clinical duties in a clinic setting, including administering medications and immunizations.
- Prepare exam rooms, assist providers with exams and procedures, and maintain room cleanliness and stock.
- Perform EKG, spirometry, point of care testing, specimen collection, and other procedures as needed.
- Perform appointment registration, verify demographic and insurance information, and collect co-payments in a clinic setting.
- Operate a company vehicle to community-based locations for healthcare services.
- Manage in-basket tasks, address MyChart messages, and assist with pre-certifications, referrals, and authorizations.
- Schedule patients for clinic, hospital, and ancillary medical treatments.
- Collaborate with the client's care team to optimize clinical outcomes.
- Assist clients with the MAP eligibility process.
- Document all client encounters and contacts in the electronic health record.
- Assist clients in accessing health-related services and overcoming barriers to care.
- Participate in client care huddles and interdisciplinary case conferences.
- Respect patient confidentiality and treat patients with courtesy and respect.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with all care team members.
- Develop and maintain positive internal relationships with colleagues.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement projects.
- Attend staff meetings and educational offerings.
- Support organizational initiatives to promote a positive workplace culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of a Medical Assistant externship.
- Current Texas Driver's License in good standing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers obtained through approved American Heart Association.
