About the Role

The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as a caregiver to residents, providing resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse. This role involves age-appropriate care, infection prevention, and contributing to the nursing team.

Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance with basic health care needs including daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing.
  • Obtains and records vital signs.
  • Provides psychosocial support and personal care to assigned residents.
  • Assists residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct techniques and equipment.
  • Provides range of motion and passive exercises.
  • Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience.
  • Assists residents with meals and snacks, providing water and supplements as appropriate.
  • Aids providers and nursing staff members with procedures.
  • Documents resident interactions, outcomes, care, behavior, activity, and dietary information.
  • Communicates resident's changing condition and care concerns to the charge nurse.
  • Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens.
  • Gathers vital signs.
  • Provides housekeeping and laundry services to assist residents.
  • Provides assistance and documentation with wellness and recreational programs.
  • Encourages resident participation in programs.
  • May participate in departmental/organization committees and task forces as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 16.
  • Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
  • Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state certified CNA within four months of date into the position.
  • CNA training and certification required and provided by facility.
  • Satisfactorily completes yearly department specific competency testing.
  • Maintains a record of continuing education credits for each year (minimum 12 hours annually).
  • Maintains all department specific required certifications.
  • When applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
  • May require a Sanford Category II Driver classification, necessitating a motor vehicle report and proof of valid driver’s license.
  • Must be medically qualified to perform essential driving functions if applicable.
