About the Role
The Purchasing Associate supports the Supply Chain & Purchasing Team in the day-to-day flow of goods through the SFSPCA’s supply chain. This role focuses on sorting and distributing internal inbound packages and maintaining digital inventory records, ensuring synchronization between physical and digital stock.
Responsibilities
- Sort all inbound packages, identifying and separating organizational deliveries from personal staff packages.
- Label and stage sorted packages, verifying contents against packing slips when required.
- Deliver sorted supplies to correct locations across campus on a scheduled basis.
- Communicate delivery status to staff and escalate discrepancies or issues.
- Update supply closet digital records in NetSuite and spreadsheets.
- Conduct scheduled cycle counts of stock and reconcile physical counts against system records.
- Flag low stock, expiring product, and slow-moving items.
- Ensure supply closets are organized, labeled, and stocked according to guidelines.
- Support proper rotation of stock (FIFO) and handle expired or discontinued product.
- Follow all OSHA and organizational safety guidelines, using appropriate PPE and lifting techniques.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, following pest control protocols.
- Report safety hazards, near misses, or compliance concerns immediately.
- Provide courteous and responsive service to internal staff.
- Maintain good working relationships and collaborate with teammates.
- Assist in maintaining accurate receiving logs and inventory records.
- Follow established SOPs and flag gaps or inconsistencies.
- Take on additional ad hoc tasks as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience in a warehouse, retail stocking, or logistics support role is a plus but not required.
- Willingness to learn and reliability are the priority.
- Previous animal hospital, shelter, or veterinary environment experience a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Reliable and self-directed.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Comfort entering and updating data in spreadsheets and learning new systems.
- Commitment to the vision, mission, and values of the San Francisco SPCA.
