About the Role

The Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible for clinical patient care oversight, population health management, and staff support. This role collaborates with the Nurse Manager to improve clinical care workflows, enhance patient care quality, and increase cost-effectiveness. The Assistant Nurse Manager supports staff education, onboarding, and training, and may have clinical responsibility for specific units, practicing professional nursing according to Texas Board of Nursing standards.

Responsibilities

Collaborates with the patient’s care team to optimize clinical outcomes.
Performs Nurse Manager duties in the absence of the Nurse Manager.
Supervises assigned staff, including work assignments, timecard review, time off requests, performance evaluations, new hire orientation, and staff coaching/counseling.
Monitors health center equipment, infection control, regulatory compliance (CLIA, Radiology), Standing Delegation Orders, and emergency protocols.
Monitors compliance with standards of care for treatments, procedures, medication administration, and clinical workflows.
Enhances patient experience by addressing and resolving patient issues.
Ensures daily patient care unit huddles are conducted.
Approves payroll, time off requests, administers performance evaluations, and oversees training and orientation of new hires.
Completes daily/weekly quality assurance checklists.
Ensures all patient care tasks comply with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.
Ensures compliance with all applicable vaccine policies and may serve as Vaccine Coordinator.
Supports Provider teams by assisting with in-basket management, medication refills, rooming, dismissing, and triaging patients.
Practices AIDET during patient interactions.
Participates in the hiring process by conducting interviews and making hiring recommendations.
Acts as a resource to Medical Assistants and other clinical team members.
Responds to all clinic codes.
Adheres to Texas Board of Nursing and Texas Nurse Practice Act requirements and other governing agency regulations.
Assists in the development of departmental protocols, policies, and procedures.
Participates in continuous quality improvement projects.
Maintains awareness of key performance indicators and coordinates interventions to improve patient outcomes.
Coordinates and attends staff meetings and education offerings.
Supports organizational initiatives to promote a positive workplace culture.
Serves on committees as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
Two years of supervisory experience in a healthcare environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of Joint Commission standards, HIPAA regulations, and the Quadruple Aim.
Unrestricted Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification obtained through the American Heart Association or Red Cross.
