About the Role

The Physician Assistant (PA) is a credentialed professional responsible for the assessment and management of patients, including ordering diagnostic tests, consultations, and therapeutic interventions. The PA provides comprehensive healthcare, enabling patient choice and complementing the roles of physicians and the multidisciplinary team. This role augments a physician's ability to provide medical services, collect data, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and offer direct patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Applies knowledge of anatomy, neurology, microbiology, physiology, psychology, human disabilities, pharmacology, gerontology, human growth and development, human developmental disease, and medical terminology as appropriate in an urgent care setting.
  • Conducts patient assessments and physical examinations, collects clinical data, prepares patients for tests, orders and interprets medical laboratory test results, diagnoses medical conditions, administers medications or treatments, and performs minor surgery.
  • Staffs the outpatient addiction medicine clinic in conjunction with attending physicians.
  • Rounds and coordinates care for the inpatient consult service for patients admitted to other services.
  • Coordinates care for ED patients presenting with opioid use disorder and related complaints.
  • Provides clinical support and education for providers caring for patients with opioid use disorder.
  • Collaborates with community partners to enhance access to medical assisted therapy for opioid use disorder.
  • Completes accurate patient coding for effective billing, maintains accurate patient medical reports, and manages inventory of medical supplies and instruments.
  • Serves as a resource and team leader during clinical shifts to ensure the smooth flow of patient processing, treatment, and discharge, including patient triaging.

Requirements

  • Must be a credentialed professional functioning and practicing in an expanded specialty.
  • Must have knowledge of anatomy, neurology, microbiology, physiology, psychology, human disabilities, pharmacology, gerontology, human growth and development, human developmental disease, and medical terminology.
  • Must have knowledge of information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities, including symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
  • Must ensure that access to sensitive information is based on a “need to know” basis and is the minimum necessary to properly perform assigned duties.
  • Must ensure that use or disclosure does not exceed the minimum amount of information needed to accomplish an intended purpose.
  • Must make reasonable efforts to ensure that information is adequately protected from unauthorized access and modification.

Salary/Compensations

  • Salary Range: The Physician Assistant (PA) is a credentialed position required to function in and practice in an expanded specialty. The PA has the responsibility and accountability for the assessment and management of patients, including ordering diagnostic tests, consultations, therapeutic interventions and the daily implementation and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care. Provides comprehensive healthcare sensitive to the needs of the population, including assessment, diagnosing, prescribing, and referrals where appropriate. Enabling patient choice in provision of care, complementing roles of MD and multidisciplinary team. The PA augments a physician's ability to provide medical services to patients; collect and document data, conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations and provide direct patient care services.
