About the Role

We are looking for a curious, analytical student to help us streamline and standardize how work flows through our Atlassian platform. Your mission is to dig into the system, understand how these workflows were built, document them, identify patterns, and recommend a consolidated model with a target of reducing the many workflows in production down to four standard workflow types. This is a hands-on, self-directed role ideal for a student who enjoys investigating systems, spotting patterns, and translating complexity into clear visuals and recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and reverse-engineer existing Jira workflows across boards and projects to understand how they were configured, including statuses, transitions, conditions, validators, and post-functions.
  • Create clear, accurate current-state (as-is) process maps and workflow documentation in Lucidchart.
  • Analyze the full inventory of production workflows to identify commonalities, redundancies, and patterns that can be consolidated.
  • Design a proposed future-state model that reduces production workflows to four standard workflow types, with clear rationale and mapping from old to new.
  • Provide practical, prioritized recommendations for consolidation, standardization, and cleanup, including risks and considerations for migration.
  • Share findings and visuals with the BSA Practice and IT Operations stakeholders in a clear, easy-to-follow format.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program (e.g., Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Business Technology Management, or a related discipline).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down complex systems and spot patterns.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage your own time, and drive a project forward with minimal supervision.
  • Comfortable building process flows and diagrams in Lucidchart (or a strong ability to learn quickly).
  • Clear written and visual communication for documenting processes and recommendations.
  • Curiosity and persistence to dig into a system, ask questions, and understand the “why” behind how things were built.

  • Confluence
  • Workflow concepts (statuses, transitions, workflow schemes)
