About the Role
The Direct Care Youth Worker is responsible for maintaining a safe, predictable, and therapeutic living environment for children in care at Andrus, supporting the agency’s mission, vision, core values, and treatment philosophy. This role involves close supervision, counseling, and support to children during cottage-based activities, as well as planning and implementing initiatives to build children’s skills and self-esteem. The position ensures children's basic needs are met and the cottage is maintained in a safe, orderly, predictable, therapeutic, structured, and clean condition, working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Assuring the safety of each resident and for the cottage community
- Actively supervising the residents at all times, based on their age and level, to assure everyone’s safety
- Supervising the residents by participating with them in scheduled activities
- Enacting the program schedule as written and on time
- Using all aspects of Sanctuary in the care provided
- Using all aspects of trauma-sensitive care in the services provided
- Using all techniques of TCI to prevent triggering, intervene early to prevent escalation to crisis, safely manage any crisis that does arise, and assure safety and learning after any crisis
- Conducting LSIs and conflict resolutions for even minor conflicts to minimize the occurrence of larger conflicts
- Assuring that Safety Plans and ICMPs are in place, available to all staff, and actively used to guide treatment
- Understanding the importance of and taking responsibility for teamwork and good communication
- Planning and enacting smooth transitions from one activity to the next
- Arriving consistently and on time for assigned shifts
- Meeting expectations for use of leave, professional presentation, and responsibility for specific tasks
- Supporting the overall strategic plan of the organization
- Adhering to the organization’s core values and commitments
Requirements
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred
- Willing to train the right candidate
- A valid driver’s license in good standing for a minimum of 3 years is a plus
- Computer proficient and able to navigate Microsoft Office suite
- Multi-lingual is a plus
- Ability to access and utilize ADP app on smartphone or other device for access to agency programs
- Must participate in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training which concludes with a written and verbal test, and evaluation on conducting a proper physical restraint
- Ability to lift, reach, walk, climb stairs, bend, and kneel with or without reasonable accommodation
