About the Role
The Senior Fund Accountant is a key contributor to the internal administration of Nicola Wealth’s Mutual Fund Trusts and Limited Partnerships. This role supports audits, tax compliance, and new fund initiatives, driving Nicola Wealth’s continued growth and excellence in fund administration. The Senior Fund Accountant acts as a subject matter expert for assigned funds. This is a 12-month contract role.
Responsibilities
- Lead Net Asset Value (NAV) reviews and reconciliation with external fund administrators.
- Review reasonableness of income/expense accruals and vendor invoices.
- Oversee distribution calculations and non-resident withholding tax payments.
- Act as primary contact and subject matter expert for assigned funds and LP’s daily operation.
- Support year-end audit engagements and ensure timely financial statement sign-off.
- Support tax slip cycles and tax filings.
- Calculate estimated fund expense ratios.
- Support new fund launches and restructurings.
- Build strong relationships with internal departments and external service providers.
- Identification and documentation of key internal controls and policy.
- Lead fund operations projects and process improvement initiatives.
- Compile financial data and conduct analysis on an ad hoc basis.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of related work experience with broad knowledge of fund administration or audit/tax experience from public practice.
- Exposure to various asset classes (including private equity and real estate) and fund structures (specifically Mutual Fund Trusts and LPs).
- Basic understanding of Canadian and U.S. tax compliance for Mutual Fund Trust and Limited Partnership.
