About the Role

The Compounding Technician is responsible for staging and preparing components for drug production in a clean-room environment. Technicians may also compound sterile products and fill patient orders under the supervision of a compounding pharmacist.

Responsibilities

  • Follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Compound low to high-risk sterile and non-sterile products, including capsules, liquids, topical medications, nasal preparations, suppositories, troches, and tablet triturates.
  • Perform sterile to sterile transfers, packaging, and labeling of drugs.
  • Compound medication, fill and label prescriptions, and pre-package bulk compounded medications.
  • Monitor inventory levels, re-order low inventory, and manage expiring or expired chemicals.
  • Receive new inventory, maintain MSDS and Certificates of Analysis.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning using appropriate disinfectants and techniques.
  • Review Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) when working with hazardous or non-hazardous chemicals.
  • Perform environmental monitoring and validation testing.
  • Support daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of the environment.
  • Complete initial and ongoing competency evaluations.
  • Work under the supervision of a pharmacist.

Requirements

  • Must be registered with the State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under time and volume constraints.
  • Proficient in using a computer and related equipment, including printers and fax machines.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Effective communication skills via telephone and email.
  • Capable of lifting up to 40 pounds as needed.
  • 20/20 vision (with or without corrective aids) required for visual inspection of drug products.
