About the Role

Span.io is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to ensure accurate and compliant U.S. payroll execution. This role involves technical leadership for Workday payroll auditing, expertise in Leave of Absence pay, and reconciliation of benefits, partnering closely with HR and Finance teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support U.S. payroll processing by validating complex employee changes, including bonuses, relocations, severance, and final pay for terminations.
  • Ensure all payroll changes are accurately reflected in Workday and aligned with supporting documentation.
  • Investigate and escalate inconsistencies or payroll data edge cases.
  • Audit payroll data within Workday to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of common payroll risks and internal controls.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of U.S. payroll regulatory requirements and risk in a manufacturing environment.
  • Work with regulatory authorities for tax registrations for payroll filings.
  • Partner closely with external payroll service providers to manage open cases.
  • Review and process Leave of Absence (LOA) payments.
  • Validate inputs and manage Excel-based tracking tools for LOA calculations and estimated top-off payments.
  • Build a mastery of payroll policies and LOA scenarios, including complex state-specific differences.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of benefit invoices against payroll deductions and enrolment data.

Requirements

  • 7-10+ years in U.S. payroll, with a heavy focus on complex, high-growth environments.
  • Deep experience in Workday, including an understanding of business processes and EIB loads.
  • Advanced Excel skills for calculating LOA top-offs and performing benefits reconciliations.
  • Exceptional ability to draft SOPs and explain complex pay impacts to employees clearly and empathetically.
  • Familiarity with OneSource Virtual (OSV), Sequoia, GoNavia, Empower, or HSA Bank is preferred.
  • CPP or FCP is a plus.
