About the Role

Join our Sterile Processing Department as an Aide - Operating Room (OR) Instrumentation to support our Sterile Processing Department. We are looking for individuals to support our team in delivering compassionate, professional, and respectful care.

Responsibilities

• In accordance with infection control principles, decontamination, sterilization, and aseptic techniques, inspect, test, set up, and maintain hardware and trays for the Operating Room and other departments.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance on medical devices, equipment, and supplies, identifying and reporting damaged or malfunctioning items.
• Receive, sort, disassemble, test, clean, and high-level disinfect endoscopy.
• Assemble items based on a computerized instrument tracking system and print labels.
• Assemble complex OR Instrument Trays, including but not limited to Orthopedics, Vascular, Laparoscopic, Robotic Instruments, ENT, Dental, and Ophthalmology.
• Replenish and assemble Orthopedics and Maxofacial instrumentation following MDRD standards.
• Receive, fill, and deliver urgent and routine requests for medical devices, supplies, and equipment for the OR and other patient areas.
• Perform decontamination and sterilization of instruments, hardware, and case cart picking.
• Transport medical/surgical equipment and case carts.
• Adhere to departmental and Hospital policy and procedures.
• Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of workstations, storage areas, processing machines, and equipment.
• Perform related clerical duties, including record maintenance, answering telephones, filing, data entry, and information retrieval.
• Assist with the orientation and training of new staff and students.
• Distribute and collect supplies, instruments, and trays from the entire hospital for reprocessing.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Grade 12 or equivalent required.
• Completion of Medical Device Reprocessing Certificate from a Canadian Accredited Community College.
• Current registration by the Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Ontario (MDRAO).
• Two years recent Medical Device Reprocessing experience, including reprocessing, decontamination, sterilization, inspection, testing, setup, maintenance, transport, distribution, and collection of trays, case carts, medical instruments, equipment, and hardware.
• Good working knowledge of medical supplies, instruments, hardware, and sterilization equipment.
• Knowledge of surgical and medical terminology.
• Good command of the English Language (both verbal and written).
• Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to operate machinery, such as sterilizers, with training.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting/pushing up to 25 lbs and standing for extended periods.
• Ability to work with organic and inorganic residues such as blood and other bodily fluids.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Excellent attendance and discipline-free record.
• An understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles as they relate to health practices is an asset.

Salary/Compensations

• $30.795 - $31.346 per hour
