About the Role

The Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time teaching stream position in General Sociology at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream. This search aligns with the University’s commitment to strategically and proactively promote diversity among its community members. Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be assigned a teaching and service load.

Requirements

Must have earned a PhD degree in Sociology or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter.
Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching.
Teaching interests that complement and enhance existing departmental strengths.
Teaching experience in a degree-granting program, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures.
Demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry.
Demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.
Strong skills in sociological research methods.
Prioritize the teaching of sociology as an empirically grounded social science.
Experience with, and demonstrated excellence in, teaching both large lecture courses and small discussion-based courses in sociology is preferred.
Evidence of excellence in teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier, and strong letters of reference.
