About the Role
Baker Tilly is seeking a Senior State & Local Tax Associate to join their growing State & Local Tax (SALT) practice. This role involves providing strategic state and local tax consulting services to middle market and Fortune 500 companies, focusing on compliance, expense reduction, and cash flow enhancement. The position offers opportunities for professional growth, client interaction, and skill development in various SALT areas.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic state and local tax consulting services to lower tax rates, ensure compliance, and provide value.
- Research state tax issues including nexus determinations, taxability analyses, and quantification of potential liabilities.
- Provide guidance on compliance matters such as state tax return preparation and sales/use and unclaimed property.
- Respond to notices issued by state and local taxing jurisdictions.
- Provide guidance on state and local tax controversies for multi-state companies, including research and preparing written protests.
- Assist with due diligence and voluntary disclosure projects.
- Prepare memoranda on state and local tax issues for various entity types.
- Prepare ruling requests and respond to state and local tax audits.
- Maintain active communication with clients to manage expectations and ensure satisfaction.
- Engage in on-the-job coaching and mentoring, and participate in firm-wide learning and development programs.
- Utilize entrepreneurial skills to network and build strong relationships internally and externally.
- Support the growth and development of team members through the Baker Tilly Care and Teach philosophy.
- Participate in social activities and team outings that encourage a work-life balance.
Requirements
- 4-year degree, license eligible required.
- Three (3) + year(s) experience in state and local tax.
- Professional services firm experience preferred.
- An eagerness to work on a variety of SALT projects.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S., without sponsorship, highly preferred.
